Reacting to the Second Circuit's decision striking down the FCC general ban on the words Fuck and Shit on television, the FCC Commissioner just carefully thought through and then decided to write out and issue the following position:
If ever there was an appropriate time for Commission action, this was it. If we can't prohibit the use of the words "f---" and "s---" during prime time, Hollywood will be able to say anything they want, whenever they want.

Yes, Heaven Help Us(TM) if something like the followinng becomes the law of the land. What idiots could be in favor of such a thing?:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

How hard is the to understand? My nine year old recently learned the word fuck from his friends. He asked me what it means. We have a wonderful open and honest relationship. I reminded him that he had already learned the words penis and vagina and then I explained that the word fuck is a crass and rude way to describe sex, which basically is a man putting his penis inside a woman's vagina. He said "ew." We laughed. I told him if he wanted more detail now or any time I would be happy to tell him (figuring that this was enough birds and bees for this initial lesson). I asked him to be polite and not to go around blurting out the word because some people are offended by its use. He said that was fine and that he understood.
So what? What is the big deal? Everyone knows this word, especially kids. So what if my son learned it from tv? He would have (and did it turns out) learn it anyway. Everyone is perfectly free to think someone is a rude jerk for using the word at all or around kids. But we all should be ready to fight to allow people to be jerks and speak their minds.
Indeed, this is one sorely misunderstood reason for the First Amendment. If people harbor things silently, how will we know they are idiots or dangerous? If someone uses a racial slur I instantly learn a lot about them -- including that I don't want to be around them because they are probably mentally defective and dangerous. Force that same person not to use that slur, and how will I know they are a racist idiot?
Heaven help our country, because we appear to be incapable of saving it from the morons currently in charge and incapable of understanding and protecting our basic civil liberties. Dangerous Words(TM) cause us all to have the vapors. I mean for goodness sake, I heard a PBS documentary on the Iraw war bleeping out the fuck word! Apparently it is fine to start and the videotape a horrific war where people are literally blown to bits, chlorine-gassed, shot, beheaded, and incinerated but heaven forbid we hear a soldier utter the word fuck while in the midst of that hell. Protect our pretty little minds!!
Amazing.
