Seems too good to be true.
President Bush recently called for a meeting, towards the end of the year, of the countries who are the biggest polluters, to chat about setting some long term voluntary goals related to emissions. Alone, that amounts to nothing.
This week, the European contingent at the G8 was in search of binding emission agreements.
Today there is word of an actual deal at the G8 re climate change. A word to the wise - we have had 'actual deals' since Rio in 1992 - but we don't want to be too cynical. Here is the BBC's take And now we will wait to see if there is a signed, mandatory, verifiable, enforceable structure to it.
Who is optimistic?
