So I took Kagro X's advice and looked at the letters in support of Scooter Libby.
I know that in the wake of the release of these highly entertaing testimonials, many will be focussing on the really big names: Mary Matalin and James Carville, Heny Kissinger, Douglas Feith, etc.
But one of my personal favorites also turned up. Victoria Toensing wrote a letter of support for Scooter Libby prior to his sentencing.
What was really funny was the anecdote that she and her partner, Joseph diGenova decided to share:
On a particularly rough trial dar, Victoria approached Scooter at a break and invited him and Harriet to come over for dinner as a social break from the pressure. One could tell by looking at Scooter's expression that he would have loved to do so. Yet, he immediately replied, "No, Harriet and I need to be with the kids. It's important we spend time with them now."
OMG!!! Vicky's got a crush on Scooter! Vicky and Scooter sitting in a tree. L-Y-I-N-G.
Of course the kicker is that in possibly his smartest move ever, Libby totally rejected her. Ouch!!!
Don't get me wrong. As hig school as it is, Vicky's crush isn't sexual. No, she loves power and influence and insider status in Washington and despite his current situation Scooter's got the connections. I'm guessing she thought that all of her support in her articles during the trial might get her an in with him.
Assuming that Victoria was in on the writing of this letter, the line:
One could tell by looking at Scooter's expression that he would have loved to do so.
reeks of desperation.
He really wanted to come, but he's got kids. I know he likes me! Really!
Oh well. I guess Scooter has got a great prison pen pal.
