MSNBC just reported that General Peter Pace is being replaced as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
They immediately announced that they would stay with Paris Hilton watch. This is where the priorities of our media lie. This is repulsive. The general who is responsible for the whole of the military establishement, in a time of war, has been ousted and the media is still obessessed with surveilling a Bel Air residence where NOTHING is actually happening.

While awaiting confirmation from the InterTubes...
At yesterday's hearing for Lt. General Lute, Sen. Reed had some comments about Pace:
"Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., made the calls to fire Stephen Hadley and replace Marine Corps Gen. Peter Pace during Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute’s confirmation hearing Thursday before the Senate Armed Services Committee."
Now that's service!
Pace advocated for Libby:
After Libby was convicted of "lying to investigators and a federal grand jury examining the leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame’s identity," Pace wrote a letter endorsing Libby’s character, specifically noting his "selfless" nature and his penchant for examining decisions "legally and morally."
He did this while denying an honorable discharge for a soldier who wore his uniform to an anti-war event.
Upadte [9:53 am PDT]: CNN just reported the story and announced that Sec. Gates will speak in 10 minutes. Will they interrupt Paris? CNN did a brief segment specualting that the admin just wants a "fresh face" but could not come up with any substantive reason for the change. They also had no idea who might replace him. And now [9:56am PDT]...CNN returns to Bel Air and ParisWatch.
Update [10:00am PDT]: All three cable news nets led their top-of-the-hour newscasts with...PARIS! CNN briefly cycled in a graphic of the Pace story.
Update [10:05am PDT]: Gates is announcing that Pace is not being renominated because he believes the Senate confirmation will be "contentious." Is he serious? Does he really think that any confirmation dealing with this immoral, illegal, and upoopular war won't have controversy? Pace will be replaced by Michael Mullins, currently Chief of Naval Operations.
After the Gates news conference, all three cable news nets went right back to Paris. At this time [10:40am PDT] they are all following an LAPD squad car down the L.A. freeways to the court downtown. It has always perplexed me that anyone would be interested in watching a vehicle from the air that might have someone in it, but who cannot be seen. the media could just point their cameras at any squad car they want and say Paris is in it. Of what journalistic use is this video?
And yet, they will continue following this car until they get to the court where they will set up camp to film more NOTHING while Paris and the others are inside. And they will do this instead of trying to analyze the significance and impact of the dumping of General Pace. Well, maybe preventing these pundidiots from pontificating about matters of real importance is good thing.
Hopefully final Update [12:10am PDT]: Paris was taken screaming from the courtroom as the judge ordered her to be returned to jail. Whatever happened to her promise to serve her sentence and be a good role model? Never mind, don't answer that. I bet we still won't get much news about Pace.
