A recent news report had the Premier of Poland denying any involvement with "extraordinary rendition" or secret prisons in Poland to assist the Bush administration in its torture program and war on Arabs and other non-Western peoples.

The denials were in complete opposition to the reports of several human rights groups like Amnesty International and others that cited evidence for the takeoff of airplanes that are chartered to the CIA and other US government agencies in a non-public capacity and that ferried individuals to Poland and Rumania, among others.

Apart from Amn.Int.,there are a number of other witnesses such as plane spotters who have confirmed these flights and some whistle blowers who have also acknowledged the programs. Italy is at this moment proceeding with prosecuting in absentia several persons connected with CIA,Italian intelligence and others for kidnapping, delivering up for torture in Egypt a Muslim cleric  that led to two years of unsanction illegal extraordinary criminal acts.

Regardless of who the individual is,the basic human right of a trial, speedy justice, proportionate punishment after conviction,or allowance to defend oneself in a court is basic.

That holds for Eskimos,Americans, Africans, Chinese, Arabs and any other national religious, racial grouping one cares to make. It is called the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the USA is a signatory to it along with virtually every country following WW2.

The recklessness, cruelty and blatant criminality of Bush and Cheney and their underlings doesn't change this fact of acceptance of and participation in its provisions for Americans.

In this special case of the internment camps in Poland, it is a special outrage and horror because Poland participated in setting up camps before,in Maidanek, Auschwitz, Treblinka and other places.

These were secret camps to hold and dispose of people who were inconvenient to a foreign power, namely the Third Reich regime in Germany.  Ironically at this time German human rights workers are very critical of the USA and are actively opposing these sorts of camps.

So Poland once again knuckles under to a "patron"or overlord? How disgusting!+ Shame on you for collaborating!

The USA has set up camps in Guantanamo Bay and various military posts around the USA which are not as well known.

There is no real law except a trial by decree that goes on.
There are no charges except those made upon the spot. there is no real defense allowed. there is no review, except by administrators in secret. And the proceedings are a secret trial also. It is as vile and unAmerican as anything ever has been in this Republic.

Persons as young as 14 or 15 held there,or even much younger children who may be relatives of some of those of interest to the regime.  Several have died in captivity.

So far these have been announced as suicides, but nothing is really confirmed.

The outrageous point about Poland is the claim by the recently appointed Premier that there is no truth to the existence of the secret prison between 2003-2005 and possibly later is belied by the irony of Poland making similar denials about the roundup and even extermination of its own citizens
sixty six years ago.  Have they no shame?

Where is the pride in being Polish and standing for human rights? As  descendants of Kosciusko, Pulaski, Sienkewicz, and many, many Poles who fought courageosly, even against long odds and when the battle was sure to be lost this statement is untrue, repulsive and cowardly..

These two leaders of the Polish republics are so cowardly they cannot even admit they pleasure Bush to get a few zlotys thrown their way. Judases, the both of them. Selling out Poland's independence and moral standing for a bit of financial gain.

May your rotten souls be exposed in sunlight and may the devil take you to where you belong!

(I'll update this in a while with some links..this was done to get it in a timely fashion.)

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

How absolutely disgraceful to help Poland return to some of the darkest chapters in its history!!!!!

Are you aware that they were invaded by the Nazis in WWII?  You make it sound like they invited the Germans to set up the camps there.  And yes, I am aware that there was a lot of anti-Semitism in Poland, as there was in the rest of Europe.  It is outrageous to refer to their being overpowered and brutally occupied by a more powerful army as "knuckling under".

The Premier's sucking up to Bush is disgusting.  But these are two different situations.  Get your history straight.

Many Poles, thru antisemitism ,basic avarice and so on took advantage and helped themselves to their neighbor's property (like going in ther houses and stealing everything they could, basically looting) when they could. A most shameful deal. But Poles were invited to collaborate and enjoy the New World Order.

Many did,but most did not.  My point in this diary is to show the worst aspects of Poland didn't disappear with the end of WW2, they merely went underground.

The RWingers that love Bush in Poland and are happy to have these secret camps are the very sorts of people who were rightfully considered quislings, collaborators before. Those that didn't stand up before, welcomed the Nazis, some of their ilk are using the same excuses to help Bush.

Poles had no rights. The Germans whisked them off to camps,be they Jewis,Gypsy, resistance fighters or whatever.Torture, execution, slave labor...yes it all happened.

Some Poles had to help to keep those camps going. And it was convenient for Germans to have the camps outside Germany to keep the program the dirty secret it was.

If you don't understand the irony, too bad.

If you "get your history straight" by being outraged by Jewish genocide but give a PASS to Bush's and Poland's help in Muslim,Arab genocide you are really not a democrat or human rights activist are you?

BTW we are talking about differences  in scale and number, not intent.  What do you thinkthe size of those camps will be 5 years,10 years down the road/ Willthey be smaller?  Don't think so.
