Triangulation, hesitation-calcification
Well, its been 6 months since Democratic control of both houses. Unfortunately, other than the required oversight flooding both houses the quagmire in Iraq continues. Attempts at extricating the Us from IRAQ have failed. In addition, attempts at impeachment have failed.
For the past 6 months, Reid and Pelosi have not cheerlead sufficiently to garner wider support to end the war. They have not been agressive enough in rounding up votes and putting a fire under the ass of the administration. Both expect some miraculous 180' turn by holdouts any minute.
There is both reticence and meekness in their watered down approach...... Every resolution that has been considered pertaining to Iraq places no demand on the president nor does it force a pullout. Did the two of them think they would just be handed a pullout and that Republicans would cry uncle? Both of them knew in Nov what was necessary to bring an end to the war. But they dont want to push the button and lay down a hard core pullout bill. And the polls reflect this error. Approval of Congress has plummeted to 36% and that is because there are alot of pissed off people who voted for Democrats in the hopes of an Iraq exit, are now being dashed.
Harry Reid is not an aggressive Majority leader. He never was. Harry Reid is a corporate backed senator from Nevada who believes in not rocking the boat. Harry was bamboozled by the disastrous Medicare D bill. Harry sat on his ass as the bill was passed and never bothered to contest Republican lies as to its cost. The administration lied about the true cost of the bill and this was not exposed for it till after the bill was passed as I am sure everyone is aware of.The bill gave 2 billion dollars in "startup costs" for insurance companies enering the new D plan. Corporate welfare brought to you by
out Majority leader. It makes you wonder if Harry had mega corporate benefactors that would gain from the bill. This is not an agressive majority leader looking after the people's interests.
Harry believes in "gentlemen's agreements" such as the one
he made with then majority leader Bill Frist- over Supreme court nominations. Harry did not even consider even one filibuster for either Alito or Roberts. And the Dems had the votes to cut off at least one of the nominations. These are the Washington insider games and appeasment that is ruining us. Nothing more than bromides and tepid responses.
Now, Harry and Nancy want results by August late in the hopes of finally shifting more votes their way for a pullout. Really? Do you think this recalcitrant Republican party is going to buckle in September? They have shown nothing but resolve since Jan, easily dashing Democratic initiatives on the cliffs. I think they like being rebels. Pelosi has taken
impeachment off the table despite the fact that all polls indicate and American willingness to impeach. This is a no brainer. The Dems can't lose because the public sees it as a favorable idea to restore government after 6 years of fascist rule. They favor impeachment like they favor a Democratic majority. In addition, given this grotesque and corrupt administration-easily making the Nixon administration look like pikers-it is Congress' duty to eliminate this malignancy on the body politic..
And now today, Reid floats another possibility of getting out of Iraq, but again there is no forced drawdown or final exit date or strategy. More playdoh initiatives. Only Feingold's bill forces a pullout by April 2008. Maybe he should run the Senate. I dont have a problem with that.
the same. If this is the type of triangulation and output we can expect from these 2 entrenched corporate placaters from now on, the voters are going to ask for the heads of Dems.. And they are beginning to.
The Democratic party can do better than 2 career politicians who propably practice polling just like madame Hilary.
