While Neocons mount their media campaign to free Lewis I. "Scooter" Libby, they also face the growing public perception of the two-tiered justice system under Attorney Gerbil Abu Gonzales.
That's why they should immediately send Mr. Libby directly to sunny Club Gitmo where he can enjoy the therapeutic waters,
dine on fabulous gourmet meals and the relax to soothing music they reportedly pipe into each luxurious suite.
He can relax there until after the election when it won't politically hurt them.
And just think. As Mr. Libby is already an attorney, he won't need to be bothered with visits from counsel or the media while he files his appeals.
This is the perfect solution to the Neocons ' dilemma as an executive pardon would not only further deteriorate the already greatly diminished public trust in the Bush Administration, but also undercut our covert intel agents' confidence to file accurate field reports rather than being forced to tailor the facts to fit the political whims of Karl Rove and Dick Cheney.
The most surprising thing is that even some operatives in the DLC are arguing for Libby's clemency!
If "enhanced interrogation techniques" work as well as the Neocons claim, ol' Scooterboy will feel more inclined to cooperate with Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald.
But who knows? He may actually enjoy it. And if he gets bored with his environment at Camp X-Ray, he might qualify for a surprise all-expense paid field trip to exotic Uzbekistan for some special attitude rejuvenation.
Is sending Libby directly to Gitmo too harsh? Despite what many imply, he's not simply providing cover for some innocuous political prank. Nor is it simply about Bush and Cheney lying about yellow cake. This was serious enough for the CIA to refer the case to Attorney General Ashcroft whose Deputy in turn appointed a Special Prosecutor.
Now that he's been convicted of obstructing an investigation into a serious defense intelligence leak, and continues to do so, then why not let the punishment fit the crime?
Larry Johnson - a former CIA and State Department official who was a 1985 classmate of Plame's in the CIA's case officer-training program at Camp Peary, Va., known as "the Farm" - predicted that when the CIA's internal damage assessment is finished, "at the end of the day, (the harm) will be huge and some people potentially may have lost their lives."
The fact is that this makes Nixon's Watergate look like a simple bungled burglary. Scooter's refusal to rat out his fellow finks falls just short of conspiracy to commit treason. So someone clue me in, please. Why did the CIA not skip the trial and kidnap him as an enemy noncombatant to use the same "enhanced interrogation techniques"?
Is it that he's too white, too rich, or simply too well-connected?
