Update: I can't tell you the number of times I've laughed my ass off tonight in reading the comments you've all left here. Thank you for reminding me, and helping me show others, what this community can really be like when we're not poking each other's eyes out. I'll be watching you! *(wink)* Until then, there are many more diaries out there, most of them 100 times better than this one. Feel free to UN-Rec this diary at will in order to make room for one of the truly important diaries that are waiting to be read. Good night all!

It seems to me that the UID (User ID) has become the weapon of choice here lately when trying to beat someone over the head for a comment that they don't agree with. I just want to let everyone who would be silly enough to click on a diary from me know how simple-minded this practice is. UID has absolutely nothing to do with...well...anything!
At one point in time, before the site became so popular, it was a half-assed way to take a guess as to whether the new user was a troll. I'd give the method a 20% accuracy rate, and that's being generous.
My UID is #9133. But I lurked for damn near six months before I even bothered to register. I imagine if I had jumped right in I would have had a UID of #3000. Maybe even lower.
A few examples of what I call UID Bashing I've seen recently (By the way, I have zero intention of 'calling' anyone 'out' here, the comments just speak for themselves:
User ID 123808, huh? As opposed to Nameless Soldier, who is 40269. Did you really start commenting here 5/30/2007?
UID #123485 read FAQ/TOS then kindly edit/delete
but, user #123077, thicken up your skin while on the blogoshere. And don't whine away "demanding" an apology.
.
This even got a few recommends:
The commenters UID is 121920. (3+ / 0-)
What do you expect
Notice the demeaning way a person's UID is referenced below, rather than their chosen user name. As if having a higher UID is not worthy of the same respect given to anyone else here.
Of course, everyone came to your defense, 123,077. Where were back around #3,315?
Let me interject an answer to that here. Who gives a shit? What was the point of this? To say that you are a better Democrat than someone who didn't find this particular website as soon as you did? That their insight or comments aren't as valuable?
Well, if that's the case, I must have missed the memo. And so did these other fine people who post here on a regular basis, who's insight and effort I consider to be far more valuable than mine.

Look. This list above? This is nothing but a miniscule, tiny, off the top of my feeble brain (aka too damn lazy to keep going) sampling of people who contribute to this site with their time, their heart, their minds, their caring, humor, wit...you get the picture.
Maybe they should be more considerate of my status here as I have obviously been hanging around this site much longer than any of them. I must be fighting harder, a more dedicated liberal. A true Democrat (even though I'm a registered Independent)!
You people need to get in line and start respecting mah authoritay!
