America has lost much of it's moral standing in the world in the last few years as a result of the policies pursued by the current White House administration. They have made us less safe at home due to the reckless pursuit of personal profit for a few. True safety in the world today will take a generous America. Safety and peace can not be forced upon the world at the end of the barrel of a gun.
We must be the America that brought human rights to the forefront of how a government and a people are measured. We must provide leadership for real change. We must inspire people to be better and to do better and to treat each other with kindness and love. We have to understand why we are in the place we are today in the world, how we got here, and how we can change the negative consequences of our past actions. We must take responsibility for our actions in the world. We must move forward with policies that pursue peace and generosity. We must act morally and ethically in how we treat other nations and peoples and the world.
He that pursues acts of generosity and speaks uprightly, he that despises the gain of oppression, that shakes his hand from holding of bribes, that stops his ears from hearing of blood and shuts his eyes from seeing evil; he shall dwell on high, his place of defense shall be a fortress of rocks; bread shall be given him; his water shall be sure. - Isaiah 33:15-16
We can and we must prevail in these times of strife in the world. Part of what can be done is to be a true leader on global issues. We need a 21st Century Marshall Plan. The original Marshall Plan was implemented over 4 years following the destruction of WWII. The USA sent aid to many European nations in efforts to build the foundations of a better economy and to rebuild what the war had destroyed. The USA should implement a plan to help end hunger, homelessness, poverty, inadequate education and inadequate health care throughout the world.
"All life is interrelated. All men are caught in the inescapable networks of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality." Martin Luther King Jr.
