And F-you, said my son to his friend tonight during a disagreement.
Both boys are 10 and today was the last day of school so they were feeling their oats to say the least but upon hearing this exchange I was really taken aback. He has been grounded with the appropriate talk but SHEESH!!!
Ten years old, just barely. Where did they learn this? My husband and I are so careful to NOT swear. We try so hard to set a good example and our efforts seem to have all gone poof.
What is going on these days with kids and where do they hear this language if it isn't offered up at home? And, why are they so mean and so defensive?
I have a theory below.
Kids cartoons have always been violent but it seems to have octopussed out. Watch any Cartoon Network offering these days and all you see is adult characters portrayed as babbling idiots at best. The kids all call each other idiots and stupid on these shows.
IMO, the point of these shows is no longer about entertaining kids or even getting them to purchase Pokemon cards or whatnot(well, if that's a side effect so be it..). The real goal seems to be to create cannon fodder. Get these little kids all worked up and pissed off at each other enough to want to do battle. Against Iraqis or Iranians or anyone else they feel they can kick ass against.
Call me crazy but we are living it with our kids these days. They are angry and anxious and never happy it seems, even if we, as parents try to limit their access to media. It seeps in.
Meh, maybe it's just me griping but my kids mean the world to me and what I'm seeing and hearing really bothers me. Anyone else?
