Today in the sweltering heat that is the Colorado Summers, Marylin Musgrave pumped Gas for residents at a Fort Collings Gas Station between 1:00 and 2:00 pm MDT today. Appearently, many subjects were discussed between the various residents of Colorado's Fourth Congressional District and it's representative. However, she did not discuss the issues people are having with the cost of Gasoiline.
The story from Colorado Confidential.
Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave (R-Fort Morgan) worked the Cenex gas station this afternoon pumping gas and answering constituent questions on education, Mexican immigration, Piñon Canyon, but surprisingly not about gas prices.
Few drivers were filling up in the blistering mid-day heat while Musgrave was at the station and some politely declined her invitation to help them at the pump. Expected congressional challenger Eric Eidsness, who ran as a Reform Party candidate in 2006 and recently registered as a Democrat, was one of the first in line to have her fill the tank of his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
When asked about her repeated opposition to price gouging legislation when gas prices and profits are at near record levels, Musgrave explained that imprecise language caused her to vote against H.R. 07-1252 introduced by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Michigan) last month that would penalize price gouging by oil companies. "There were no definitions to the bill. You don't even know what that means," she said. "The legislation on it should be very clear and when it's ambiguous, I'm not going to vote for it."
...
As if on cue, Windsor resident Sue Sharkey drove up in her Volvo sedan with a "W" sticker on the back window. She greeted Musgrave as "her favorite Congressperson" and gladly accepted her offer to pump a tankful of high test. Sharkey said that her biggest concern were Mexicans coming over the border and terrorism. She also thanked her lawmaker for taking a pro-property rights stand on Piñon Canyon to which Musgrave responded "that made my day."
How Sweet. :P

I will say, I agreed with Musgrave on Pinon Canyon. I will give her that. But that's all I'll give her. As for her other concerns, I don't like terrorism either, however, nobody ever looks at where its roots are. As for Mexicans coming over the border, the immigration problem needs to be solved, but everyone seems to have a narrow vision motivated mostly by racism. Personally, I worry about the downward pressure on wages as well as the fact that these immigrants are being exploited to the fullest. This is an extremely complex issue that most people seem to miss.
Though, I will say that I find it interesting that Gas would not be discussed with a Representative at a GAS STATION when they are doing their job. What I would like is for people to be engaged and not deal with canned rhetoric when dealing with their representatives. I don't know how she's going to get out of vulnerable territory by dealing mostly with the base.
