Whereas the granting of the convicted obstructionist, I. Lewis Libby, a commutation of his 30 month prison sentence, the selected, non-elected, Decider-in-chief again shows his contempt for the rule of law and has taken matters into his own hands. Whereby depending upon who you are and who you know, he has created his own double standard for the rule of law: one where he can decide if "excessive" punishment was sentenced or one where there is no such thing as excessive punishment.
Whatever the case, it is now exceedingly clear, or at least it should be, that this government no longer abides by the rules and the rule of law. It must be reminded of the core principals upon which it was founded: it's power to govern is granted by we the people and not by the endowment of gifts and riches from non-human entities known as corporations.
Background: On July 4, 1776, our founding fathers set down in writing the principals which would form the basis and role of government in our society. They declared the natural right to dissolve any despotic and corrupt form of government through the philosophy of Natural Law.
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands, which have connected them with another, and to assume, among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain Inalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpation, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
Evidence and Standards: How long is it before "a long train of abuses" standard is met, whereby we the people, gain the right and the duty to decide that we should throw off our current government and reinstitute a new constitution?
Is seven years long enough?
Is the list of abuses long or egregious enough?
What would our founding fathers think of us changing their legacy?
Can we or should we do this?
Think about the Framers of the Constitution. There was a big debate about the Bill of Rights: "Do we really need them?" Some said the rights were obvious, and need not be written down.
The same goes today: This Federal Government complains that it does not have to be told what to do over matters of the law, oversight, or enforcement. The results defy this assertion.
As with the Bill of Rights, this Federal Government has to be told – in writing – that there are consequences for not asserting their oath, and assenting to unlawful abuse of power and violation of our rights.
The time for debate, asking, and negotiation is over. The time to tell the Federal Government is at hand.
Your job is to decide whether you want to continue to get the run around, or stand up for yourself.
Do you enjoy blogging on comments and talking to knuckleheads who like to whine, "There is nothing we can do"? Do you enjoy debating with those who assent to this unlawful rebellion? If so, continue doing that.
But for those of you who are exhausted and think there is another way – you’re right: There is another way. We can draft a new Constitution, vote on it, and then throw it at the Federal Government, "Follow this, or you’re in jail."
No discussion, and no more listening to their non-sense excuses for inaction.
Path Forward: Just as the original Declaration of Independence did in 1776, we too need to send a loud and clear message. One that will grab the attention of those in power. One that will serve as a reminder to them that, "We the People" are the source of government power in our society and that they can be replaced. Do the right thing and exercise the authority we vested in you.
Henceforth on this day, in order to reinforce the core principals upon which our nation was founded, I propose the adoption of these words:
We, the People of the United States of America, finding ourselves repeatedly misled by those charged with the care and governance of our nation, know that partisan politics have resulted in a serious breach of the public trust.
We have suffered attacks against our Constitutional rights and the founding tenets of this Democratic Republic.
We have suffered the infringement of our freedoms.
We have suffered insult to our honor and integrity as proud citizens.
We will no longer suffer in silence this continued assault that has now passed beyond intolerable.
We do hereby now and forever reject the bastardization of this nation's core principles through this proclamation, and define this reminder to our wayward leaders just what it takes to be a True US Patriot:
- A True US Patriot realizes if the rights of one are violated, the rights of all are at risk, and objects to any attempt to alter the Constitution in order to specifically undermine the rights and freedoms of others, ensuring that the Constitution will never be amended to endorse discrimination of any kind.
- A True US Patriot holds the founding principles of the Declaration of Independence to be self-evident, and defends the Constitutional rights of others even when those rights conflict with personal and religious beliefs; believing that all men are created equal, even in times of war, the basic principles of humanity apply not only to one group of people or nation, but to all.
- A True US Patriot supports the checks and balances within the three branches of government and rejects any attempts to circumvent or undermine them.
- A True US Patriot exercises the right to openly challenge and hold accountable at all times, even and most particularly in times of war, those who do not honor their oaths of office, who purposely mislead the nation, who abdicate responsibility when those in their employ are caught engaging in criminal and unethical activities, and who fail to serve the nation with integrity.
- A True US Patriot recognizes the contributions of the older generation and values the potential of the next, and that in order to promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves, our elders, and our Posterity, we must ensure that the basic rights of those we hold dear to access quality healthcare and education is steadfastly supported, uncompromisingly and without discrimination based on race, color, creed, gender, or orientation.
- A True US Patriot believes that human rights are inherent to the human condition and should not be given to non-living entities; the rights of corporations should not equal or exceed the rights of any individual, and the right to fair and equal trade as well as fair and equal pay are a vital part of those expectations.
- A True US Patriot recalls that our citizens consist of the tired and the poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the ‘wretched refuse’, and homeless, tempest-tossed people, and welcomes fair and balanced immigration with managed borders to ensure an open policy while maintaining and increasing security for both those who would call this land their home as well as those who already dwell within.
- A True US Patriot respects the personal religious choices of others, refrains from imposing their own beliefs upon others, refuses to support war in the name of religion, and offers foreign humanitarian aid unconditionally without tying it to religious dogma.
- A True US Patriot knows that due process of law and the protections against illegal search and seizure are core principles upon which our nation is founded, and the respect of an individual's right to privacy and security within their own home is critical to the preservation of our freedom.
- A True US Patriot respects the diversity and culture of all nations, recognizing that our continued success lay not in spite of other nations but in alliance with them in a uniform approach toward promoting the global general welfare.
Wherever we the people decide as a nation to go from here, as our founding fathers before us did, we must frame, in writing, our beliefs in the core principals of good government and send a message to those we currently entrust with the reigns of our nation, reminding them of what they are.
