Anybody remember this? Was watching SiCKO tonight and saw the footage of 9/11 in NY. Anybody remember Rudy Giuliani wanting to postpone the mayoral election to allow him to continue as mayor? I know some of us get hit with the "conspiracy freak" tag when we bring this up with regards to Bush suspending elections in 2008. . . But honestly, the leading Republican presidential candidate has already tried to do this. What is the term used to describe Lieberman? Republican Lite? How about we start referring to Giuliani as Republican Extreme? Or Republican on 'Roids. If the man has the "Chutzpah" to try and void mayoral elections, who's to say he won't do the same when more power is on the line? In fact, I think fascism may be a better term than creeping authoritarianism.
. . .the Rev. Al Sharpton taunted Mayor Rudy Giuliani for proposing a 90-day extension of his term in the midst of an election for his successor. "If I cannot address a crisis, and if I need to be an apprentice for Rudy, then why am I wasting the people's time with my candidacy?" Ferrer said. "I am ready now." Sharpton went further, suggesting Giuliani was attempting to impose himself on the city as a "king." "We didn't come together for you, Rudy. We came together for the victims of the World Trade Center," Sharpton said. "We elected a mayor, not a messiah."
