Well, well, well. Ain't primary season fun?
Members of the International Association of Firefighters have released a 13-minute YouTube video, titled "Rudy: Urban Legend" which explodes the myths that Giuliani has wrapped himself in, post-9/11.
The video was released this afternoon at 5 pm EST:
The Washington Post described the video as follows:
Giuliani rose to national prominence -- and became America's Mayor -- thanks to his performance in the aftermath of those attacks, presenting himself and the city as bent but not broken, still resilient and hopeful despite the best attempts of the terrorists. It's an image that Giuliani carries with him everyday on the campaign trail and smartly so. He remains extremely popular among not just Republicans but also Independents and Democrats, largely due to his connection to Sept. 11, 2001.
So, it's not terribly surprising that when his actions around and after that fateful day are attacked, Giuliani comes out with both guns a-blazing.
...
Speaking on the video, IAFF president Harold Schaitbarger says that "Rudy Giuilani has used the horrible events of September 11, 2001 to create a carefully crafted persona. The fact is, what Rudy portrays is not a full picture of the decisions made that led, in our view, to the unnecessary deaths of our FDNY members, and the attempt to stop the dignified recovery of those lost."
WOW. Sublety goes right out the window.
Hillary Clinton's campaign, which has been sharply critical of Giuliani's failure to address the health needs of 9/11 first responders, released another new HillCam video earlier this week, where Bill Clinton explicitly made reference to Hillary's ongoing fight to help America's firefighters (Bill's remarks start with about 2 minutes left in the video):
