The McCain train is being derailed by the lack of funds from potential donors. The reason? How closely he is allied with Bush on Iraq, the defense of Iraq, and keeping all options open when it comes to the fight on terrerism. Plus immigration.
But, the reason for the lack of funds is not the important stuff when it comes to John McCain.
The important stuff is that without money, the campaign cannot continue. The straight-talk express will run into a brick wall. There are implications there for the war on Iraq.
One of the most significant tasks of any campaign is raising the incredible amount of money it takes to get the candidate into a position to actually win. Getting the money means selling the candidate and the candidate's views so that people will feel strong enough about the candidate to give money to the campaign.
We do this all the time with our candidates. And the truth is, if we don't contribute, the candidacy dies.
For as much fundraising as our Senators and Representatives in Washington do to stay viable in politics, you'd think that the example of not funding the McCain Presidential run would clearly show that not funding the war in Iraq would work.
Yes, there are other considerations such as whether or not our idiot would even pay attention to that sort of law, but if we defund the war our second-idiot will at least have a hard time trying to spend money that isn't there as opposed to not spending money on programs he doesn't like.
But the power of the purse works. Corporations, PAC's, individuals, and others have concluded (read: voted) that McCain and his views (especially Iraq) do not a successful candidacy make. And have shown it through the power of the purse.
If only the rest of the politicians in Washington understood this lesson for the war in Iraq.
