Below is link to the web version of a local TV news piece about a woman who built herself a 84 sq. ft. home in Olympia, WA. It is made partly from salvaged materials, is on wheels, and is powered by two solar panels and a standard BBQ propane tank. She keeps the house she built herself on her friends' property.
Tiny House. (There's video there as well and it's worth the time to view.)
This is a bit off-topic for this site, but I found this story very endearing and a bit uplifting (well, as much as one human-interest story can generate); I wanted to share!
In particular you gotta love this quote:
"A simpler life, [more] time, more money. I don't have a mortgage. I don't have a big utility bill," Dee says.
Her monthly heating bill in the winter is $6, less in the summer.
"I'm able to offer money to my family if they need it, (and to) my friends if they need it," says Dee.
Her motivations are so simple, elegant, and (in the truest sense of the word) commendable. We need more people like her.
I need to be more like her.
Trivia: The typical parking space in the US, depending on facility constraints and needs, is between ~100 and ~175 sq. ft. 100 sq. ft is tiny and spaces probably haven't been sized at this area in a long time, if ever.
Her home has a smaller footprint than the pavement to park one automobile. Any automobile.
