Former Virginia Governor Gilmore has announced that he is ending his bid for the Presidency. Folks, we have dodged a bullet. As Governor, Gilmore was a disaster. Sure, he had very little chance of winning the Republican nomination, but his departure is a very welcome sign.
From the Virginian-Pilot:
"It has become apparent to me that the combination of my late start and the front-loaded nature of the primary schedule have made it impractical to continue to pursue this path towards further public service," Gilmore said in a written statement.
It's hard to say what sort of impact this will have on the GOP race. I consider it cause for celebration, though.
