Future Leaders Panel at Yearly Kos Convention
I'm moderating this panel at YK this year and I, for one, can't wait. First of all, let me give you the skinny on the specifics.
Where:
YearlyKos Main Convention Hall
When:
Friday Morning, August 3rd, 10:30 AM
What:
This is going to be a different kind of panel presentation. I'm planning to have a conversation with the panelists...no podium, no table...just seven chairs, seven microphones and a great exchange between a group of Netroots Heros.
Now comes the good part. The Who. But before I name names and show some photos, here's a bit of background.
We have six congressional candidates. They all ran in 2006 and they are all giving it a second shot. The panel comes from around the country and every one of them is a strong and serious challenger.
You should be proud to have them at your convention. And now, the...
Who:
Darcy Burner ~ Washington State ~ 8th Congressional District
As a businesswoman, community leader and mother, Darcy will fight to restore responsibility and accountability to government. In one of the most technology-dependent districts in the country, Darcy brings a level of understanding of technology which exceeds that of anyone in the U.S. House of Representatives, allowing her to address some of the most complex and difficult problems we face.
Larry Grant ~ Idaho ~ 1st Congressional DIstrict
The 1st Congressional District consists of most of western Idaho, running 500 miles from the Canadian border on the north to the Nevada border on the south.
Every child in Idaho should have the same opportunities I had growing up here," Grant said. "That means a safe community to grow up in, a good public education, a chance to go to college, and the opportunity to live and work in Idaho.
Scott Kleeb ~ Nebraska ~ 3rd Congressional District
As each day passes, I am more and more appreciative of what we accomplished together on our campaign for Congress last year. I can say without a doubt that the campaign was the most rewarding, most energizing and most inspiring endeavor in which I have ever been involved. Since then, I remain excited about our future in Nebraska and am currently exploring several options to continue and expand our campaign.
Eric Massa ~ New York ~ 29th Congressional District
The Iraq war was a bill-of-goods sold to the American people on the basis of misinformation and political positioning, and we need to remember how we got into this terrible mess in order to get out of it. And whatever the original goals, we’re now less secure, not more. Americans will hold the President, the civilian Pentagon leadership, and the entire Republican-dominated U.S. Congress accountable.
There are three key components to my position on Iraq:
-- A Political Solution: Like Bosnia
-- An Exit Strategy: Out in less than 24 Months
-- Accountability: The Key to the Future
Dan Seals ~ Illinois ~ 10th Congressional District
I am running for Congress because I believe that as a country, we have lost our way. On issues both at home and abroad, we have seen poor leadership, gross mismanagement, and downright neglect. That needs to change. I believe that our current representative hasn't shown the independence or good judgment to get us back on track. I want to help get government working again.
Gary Trauner ~ Wyoming ~ At Large Seat
Gary made the decision to run for the U.S. Congress based on his belief in public service, his willingness to use his skills and experience to make Wyoming an even better place, and his wish to restore leadership, integrity and a commitment to service for all the people of Wyoming.
"I want to ensure that Wyoming and the United States are prosperous and secure. I want to ensure that we are committed to democracy, that we respect and celebrate our diversity, that we provide equal opportunity for all and that we define ourselves not only by our economic prosperity, but by the quality of our lives and how we interact with others."
I will be proud to sit on the same stage with this group and introduce them to the YearlyKos Convention.
It should be a great conversation. Hope to see you there.
