I really didn't think I would write another diary here. I did my one post regarding the O'Reilly situation and I was honestly shocked by the response -- shocked.
Not only that but within the comments of that diary there has been alot of discourse between myself and other members of the DK community. I have learned alot from some great people here and the tone of our conversations has always remained respectful.
There is a definite hunger amidst respectful people on different sides of the aisle for this type of communication. At first I thought it was a "know your enemy" type of response I received with all of the questions and that actually wouldn't be such a bad thing. But there is also, I believe, a desire to actually intercommunicate for just the purpose of a continuing dialogue. I could be wrong but this is what my gut tells me.
That said, I have done more studying of dailykos.com -- what it is about, how it was started and its purpose. In the midst of that research I stumbled across many other sites that seem to have that 'kos' feel to them:
- streetprophets.com
- sbnation.com
- mothertalkers.com
I am sure you all know this but it was news to me.
What if there was another site? A site dedicated to respectful discourse amongst conservatives, liberals, republicans, democrats, etc, etc? Is it even possible to maintain such a site without hate taking over? Could it be a political-wiki of sorts where facts are hashed out amongst partisans in a bipartisan fashion?
Does that last sentence even make sense?
What I am trying to say in this haphazard way is maybe some of us can get together and start bringing more civility to political discourse. I have extremely enjoyed (to the point of using the word 'fun') the comments and debates I've had here in just the past few days.
This may be a long shot; however, I think it is worth bringing up to atleast see what sort of response it generates.
What say you?
(sorry, I couldn't help myself)
