In his scripted, Huggies-less press conference Senator Bitter Vitter tried to Pamper criticism on others instead of taking responsibility. Vitter exclaimed:
Unfortunately, my admission has encouraged some longtime political enemies and those hoping to profit from the situation to spread falsehoods too, like those New Orleans stories in recent reporting. Those stories are not true. Now, having said all of this, I’m not going to answer endless questions about it all over again and again and again and again.
Well according to Larry Flynt Bitter Vitter, had a brothel of at least 5 hookers in New Orleans and according to other sources Vitter fathered a
child with Wendy Cortez.
Can you feel the Luvs?
We need to put constant pressure on Vitter to resign and pressure on the media to actually do their jobs. (Although since CBS, NBC, ABC, + CNN have conservative biases and Fox News has an ultra conservative bias, I'm not holding my breath.) If constant pressure means waving diapers near Vitter's home, church, public park, etc... then so be it. (He's using his wife + kids as props so that shield should be ignored.)
If Vitter doesn't resign, we highlight the hypocrisy and emphasize how the GOP is the last bastion of hypocrites.
I wish I lived near Louisiana right now b/c I'd have bought dozens of boxes of diapers, parked my car three blocks from Vitter's house, and started walking the streets of Metarie holding up diapers with the words David Vitter on them.
Of course I'd choose not to do any of this if Vitter would abide by HIS own stated standards for public office and submit his resignation immediately. But to expect a right winger to have honesty and integrity may be asking the impossible.
UPDATE 1: I'm aware of some of the concerns in the thread. First, Larry Flynt has turned out to be incredibly accurate in his veracity regarding these type of stories. My diary contains multiple sources.
Two, a smear is when you attack someone on false information. I don't do smears. If the truth is ugly, then so be it. I"m going after Vitter on facts. If I err factually (I don't claim perfection) I'll correct the record. (Not ashamed to do so.) Here's another source from the local New Orleans newspaper about Vitter and Wendy Cortez.
Three, I seek to hold Vitter up to Vitter's standards. He's the one who says that adultery makes you unfit for public office. If Vitter resigns tomorrow, I'd support giving him privacy and time to heel. But for EVERY day Vitter remains in office, he brings whatever adverse publicity + the deleterious consequences that go with it.
UPDATE 2 - I have tried to accommodate the small percentage of naysayers who have complained about lack of sourcing etc... by putting up additional links + sources. Regretably, these same naysayers will never be satisfied and revel more in attacking fellow Dems whom they purportedly agree with most of the time than RW Republicans whom they purportedly disagree with most of the time. While these people may mean well, it is EXACTLY this kind of timidity that has cost us elections in the past despite the fact that America is a progressive nation , America's heartland is progressive, and American's agree with progressives by a supermajority on most issues. This timidity may get you a job with Bob Shrum but I'm not going to cater to it.
These RW conservatives believe in regulating the wombs, bedrooms, and sex lives of every adult American. If Vitter had openly come out in 1998 saying that what Bill Clinton did was no one else's business and that govt should not be regulating other people's bedrooms, I wouldn't be writing this diary. Vitter is responsible for HIS behavior and the consequences that flow from it.
Moreover, Vitter specifically went out of his way in that sham of a press conference to try and deny the Cortez allegations. Why did he do that? Perhaps he knew it was true and was trying to preempt it? Kind of makes the sources even more credible.
