I know, just what we need--more writing on impeachment, right?
Wrong! We're not writing about impeachment anymore--we're talking about it with one of the blogosphere's brightest stars and most brilliant luminaries to date--the incomparable Digby, author of the award-winning blog Hullabaloo. The discussion will be somewhere between 30 minutes to 1 hour, and will take place today on our "On Topic" radio show on BlogTalkRadio at 3pm PST**. Listeners will be able to stream the show live from that link, and the show should post around 5pm PST at our radio blog Political Nexus.
Many of you may remember Digby's subtle, smart, and well-considered argument on impeachment from earlier this month. A few may even remember my lengthy recommended response, as well as clammyc's brilliant framing on the issue from the same time period.
Well, today we're putting our heads together to discuss on BlogTalkRadio--with our real voices--the issue that has been the talk of the entire blogosphere, and the source of division between many bloggers and even some of our best progressive friends in Washington. There have been many rants and electronic gesticulations about impeachment, with many impassioned arguments and defenses of both positions. Today, however, will be different. Among the topics we'll be covering in depth:
- Should Capitol Hill Democrats be impeaching anyone in theadministration or not?
- Whom should we impeach--Gonzales? Cheney? Bush? In what order, and when?
- On what charges should we press for impeachment, if at all?
- Should the initiative to impeach (if it arrives at all) come from the states, or from the Congress?
- What political repercussions would Democrats likely face from pursuing impeachment?
- At what point are political costs, if any, high enough to tip the balance against impeachment?
- Does failure to impeach truly give free reign to the next Executive to behave in a Unitary fashion? On the flipside, does proceeding with impeachment actually constrain a future Executive branch?
- Why aren't Republicans afraid of Unitary Executive powers falling into the hands of Hillary/Gore/Obama/Edwards?
- Would Democrats really get the support of enough Republicans to make impeachment more than a defiant message bill?
Trust me--you won't want to miss this exciting conversation. So tune in for either the live BlogTalkRadio broadcast at 3pm PST today, or visit Political Nexus after 5pm PST for the full download.
Don't miss this chance to hear Digby herself dishing out on the most controversial topic on the blogs today!
**Unfortunately, we will not be accepting any live callers for this show, but you are welcome to talk about it in our chat box at Political Nexus and leave comments on the site.
