I know most around here are NOT FOR continuing the so-called "drug war" and most are FOR making this mostly a health issue but there are plenty of the more old-school Democrats who still just want to brush this issue (which polls badly) under the rug.
We've got bigger fish to fry like getting out of Iraq right?
WRONG!
By allowing the daily attacks on the Constitution, particularly the 4th and 10th and 11th amendments, Democrats have allowed things to get where they are with a rogue, out of control, and out of his fucking mind president, per his executive orders and signing statements which have basically usurped at least the legislative if not both legislative and judicial branches of government, per his latest "unitary executive" statements regarding the Justice Department.
Democrats allowed this to happen by allowing decades of Constitutional neglect, particularly in relation to the Constitutional abuses of the so-called "drug war."
Now Republican-run North Dakota and a quirky Republican congressman from Texas lead the way AWAY from this War on Americans, further shaming Democrats, the lesser of evils supposedly:
David C. Monson seems an improbable soul to find at the leading edge of a national movement to legalize growing hemp, a plant that shares a species name, a genus type, and, in many circles, a reputation, with marijuana.
[snip] ...he listens to Rush Limbaugh in his tractor.
[snip]... When he is not teaching, he is a Republican representative in Bismarck, where his party dominates both houses of the legislature and the governor is Republican.
"North Dakota is really pushing the envelope on this one," said Doug Farquhar, the program director for agriculture and rural development at the National Conference of State Legislatures. Montana, West Virginia and Maine and other states have passed bills allowing farmers to grow industrial hemp, said Alexis Baden-Mayer, the director of government relations for Vote Hemp, a group that presses for legalization, but those laws are mainly symbolic given federal drug law.
Though federal authorities ban the growing of hemp, saying it contains tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive substance better known as THC in marijuana, six states this year considered legislation to allow farmers to grow industrial hemp, and Representative Ron Paul, Republican of Texas, introduced a bill in Washington that would let states allow such crops. In state houses, the advocates of hemp note that it contains mere traces of THC, and that hemp (grown in other countries) is already found here in clothes, lotions, snack bars, car door panels, insulation and more.

This is a first step towards stopping the War on Americans, the so-called "drug war." Europe has shown that by making drug laws mostly a health issue, civil liberties can be respected and subsequent increases of usage are mostly temporary.
This president has been enabled by Democrats, per our acquiescence of the neo-fascist, anti-Constitutional "drug war" with its illegal searches and seizures happening everyday in America, with its covert Iran-Contra drug operations always an option for rogue US governments like our current crop of criminals, not to mention all the other rampant corruption it causes in many countries throughout the world.
Republicans, the military, and the wealthy have mostly used this War on Americans as a leverage tool against freedom in America, against the Constitution, and for their interests. It has allowed America to dominate countries throughout our hemisphere, to invade those countries, see Panama and Nicaragua.
The "drug war" has caused MANY more problems than they have fixed.
Control is what it's about for them and the wealthy and their military/ government stooges could care less about protecting your children, see the global climate change crisis where our children face NO NATURAL RESOURCES (yes that means water, the lifeblood of mankind) in the next few decades.
It's about control. That's all.
It is bitterly ironic that a mostly wingnutty guy from Texax named Ron Paul is the only person sponsoring a bill calling for a change in hemp laws per the above article.
Where are the democrats? Where have the dem pols been? They've been accomplices up there in Washington DC, that's where they've been.
Karma is a bitch.
