Mike Waltner of Pennsylvania - The "Key" to the Keystone State
Mike Waltner, Democrat, is running for Congress against an incumbent Republican in Pennsylvania - a state that SHOULD be among our Bluest! You took that bus and knocked on doors. You left flyers, and used those phonebanks for hours - no, weeks -- to "Turn PA Blue." We all worked hard.
Pennsylvania still needs us.
Join me - FREE - next Monday, for "An Evening with Mike Waltner," and hear why.
Born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Mike and his family worked for three generations as iron workers, window washers and food service providers. Mike's grandmother worked as a labor organizer. Mike's mom, almost 70, has to work at a gas station convenience store, in the nighttime shift. He is no "privileged son."
From his site: "Mike Waltner is running on a moral platform committed to moving Pennsylvania forward into the 21st Century." !http://www.waltnerforcongress.com/...
Yes, "moral" - the kind of principles that we as Democrats embrace.
Mike "believes that our leaders have the moral obligation to move America from the present era of debt and broken promises into a new era of real investment in our people."
Mike has worked with community and religious leaders in New York City, addressing important social issues that cut across all political, racial, ethnic, and class lines.
As director of operations at the Interfaith Center of New York, he ... [tackled] issues such as health care access, poverty, domestic violence, mental illness, housing, immigration, and substance abuse. Mike pioneered community programs with the New York Police Department, the Unified Court System, and the Bar Association that continue to build relationships between community leaders and the justice system.
On Iraq: " ... the only long-term solution to the problems facing the United States in Iraq is to end the occupation and bring our troops back home."
On healthcare: "Mike supports the implementation of a single-payer health care system."
For our seniors: "Mike opposes any plan to privatize and eliminate Social Security, one of the most respected and successful federal programs for lifting and keeping seniors out of poverty. In addition, Mike supports the reform of Medicare Part D, which will secure for seniors the cheapest price for prescription drugs."
