It is that the time for debate is over.
After quite a bit of delay, I finally saw sicko last weekend. I did not see it immediately upon its release because many posts I read about the film began with, "I haven't seen Sicko yet but I hope it adds to the dialogue about health care in this country," or something of the sort. No one I knew really seemed to be in much of a rush to see the film so neither was I. I assumed the reason was that they, like myself, already were aware of the health care issues this country faces and really needed no further convincing. However, after having seen the film I've come to a singular conclusion.
There is no further need for dialogue or debate on the issue of nationalized health care. Any individual who wishes to argue the point that nationalized health care is a bad idea for, really, any reason should be marginalized and ignored for the crazy individual that they are. There should be no further engagement with these individuals. A simple statement of fact should suffice.
Nationalized health care works. Other countries have it. We need it. And you, sir, are simply wrong. I'm done speaking with you.
No further dialogue should occur. Entering into a debate on whether nationalized health care is needed (not the details of setting up a system) ultimately results in battles involving cherry picked pseudo statistics. Arguing over numbers and statistics is simply insulting when it is considered that people are dying, health care companies are letting people die so they can make a profit. That is unacceptable in our society.
