As I am currently at a loss for words to describe my utter discouragement and sadness over the latest capitulation by the Democrats, I thought it might be nice to focus on a heartwarming story that is taking place in my hometown of South Portland, Maine.
Follow me below the fold for the story of a young activist who is taking on city hall and might just win the fight yet.
With her 'Give Peeps a Chance' campaign, ten year old Olivia Collins is taking on City Hall in her quest to have city ordinances changed to allow residents to keep up to six hens as pets. She has been talking to neighbors and attending meetings for weeks in order to hone her proposal and win the acceptance of reluctant city councilors.
She has contacted all her neighbors to get permission, and argues that the hens will produce fresh organic eggs for her family, will eat kitchen and garden scraps cutting down on garbage, and their waste can be used as fertilizer in the garden.
You can read more about it on Olivia's website here: http://www.sailzora.com/...
If you're an urban chicken farmer or just a friend of the peeps, drop in and write her a note of support.
Or just check it out to bring a smile to your face on an otherwise dark day politically.
Hope this cheers a few people up. It will probably be the first and last diary/comment coming from me dealing with something warm and fuzzy...;)
