This is an official post from the YearlyKos Convention organizers.
Over the past several days, many of you have posted feedback, criticisms, praise, and other assorted comments regarding this year's just-concluded YearlyKos Convention in Chicago.
While the Convention organizers have read some of these comments, as unpaid volunteers we simply do not have the time to review every single comment that is posted on every single open thread and diary.
However, we absolutely do want to hear all of your feedback. To that end, we have created an on-line survey for you to fill out (This survey is both for attendees and people who did not attend, although if you didn't attend the survey will be shorter). Your feedback on this survey is CRITICAL to our ability to plan a better convention next year. The survey asks both for feedback from this year's convention, and for suggestions for next year's convention.
Accordingly, please click the link here, and fill out this survey.
In addition, while, as stated above, we can't read every single comment and diary posted anywhere on the internets, we will in fact read each and every comment posted on this diary. So, in addition to filling out the survey, if you'd like to write a comment that will be read by the organizers, you can do so here. Please note, however, that leaving a comment is NOT a substitute for filling out the on-line survey. Our most important and useful tool for getting feedback from you is the on-line survey, and we respectfully request that you take the time to complete it.
Finally, I'd like to point out that many of your suggestions can only be implemented if we raise more money for next year. Moreover, you should know that, ultimately, Netroots Nation will not survive long term if it is dependent on unpaid volunteers. It needs to become a sustainable organization with paid staff who can devote the time and effort necessary to make the convention a success. Virtually all conventions of this size are run by paid staff -- the amount of time required to put on such a convention simply requires that the people who work on it get paid.
In order for the organization to provide permanent staff salaries, however, NN needs to meet its fundraising goals. One of the most important components of these goals is donations from the DK community and the blogosphere as a whole. This funding is critically important. As we saw from the convention this year, Netroots Nation doesn't just provide a forum for the netroots to meet each other, but it also is an increasingly important building block in the new progressive infrastructure that is putting pressure on Congress to end the war in Iraq and stop Executive branch overreach. Your donations will help make that happen. However, without sufficient donations, NN will likely have no choice but to significantly raise registration fees, which would disqualify a large number of community members from attending. Accordingly, please donate to the Netroots Nation convention at the link HERE, so that we can continue to have these conventions year after year after year.
Once again, to donate, please click the link here.
Thank you.
Update [2007-8-10 13:51:16 by pontificator]: To answer a question from comments, the survey forces you to rank things in order of importance from most to least. We don't feel it is useful for people to be able to rank everything as "most important" :)
