I am tired of being called a Republican. It takes all kinds to make a party. And especially takes all kinds for a party to win..........
I admit I was raised Republican But so was Hillary Clinton. But it didn't take me long to see the real GOP party...........that they were liars that only cared about power and money and those with either one. They could care less about the little guy, like me. And I believe that it is the little guy who has made this country so great over the centuries.
I have been a little guy for over 30 years. I have raised two boys to manhood all by myself without child support, welfare or health insurance. I can testify personally that the only thing the little guy can do about a system that appears to have run amok and out of control is to vote and I do every single time.
If the Democratic party is only inclusive of those who think like some of the more liberal members of the party, then the party is dead and no better than its Antitheses, the GOP.
Perhaps this is why there is so much hopelessness about our political system. Perhaps this why there is so much cynicism in our country. Perhaps this why so many people don't pay attention or participate by voting. They believe there is no difference. Perhaps this is why there is a rising movement for a legitimate 3rd party.
It is those of us in the middle regardless of what we call ourselves that are the backbone of this country. I admit that backbone has gotten weaker because of the current administration. But honestly, what did the country really expect from a Bush? And should they expect anymore from a Clinton?
On some issues I am way too liberal to be a conservative and others I am way too conservative to be called a liberal. So what does that leave? I'll tell you. It makes me like over 50% of the people in our country today.
If the Democratic party wants to win not only the presidency in 2008 but enough seats in the Congress to control the agenda, then they MUST have voters like me. Every single President (except Bush) has been elected by middle America. (Note: Bush was appointed by the Supreme Court).
And even if I was a Republican, WHICH I AM NOT, then I would think you would consider that a very good sign that people are willing to cross over to the other side of the aisle and work together for the good of the country. Our party cannot and should not be politically segregated. Perhaps this is why the Democrats have been defeated in the past.
The most important thing in 2008, is to win so that finally we can reverse some of the damage the Bushies have done. If the Democratic party is not all-inclusive, they will lose in 2008. Why? Because those votes that are so desparately need to win....like mine...........will either be cast for someone else or simply not vote......and the Dems will lose.....AGAIN!
I ask you, can our country afford 4 more years under any Republican? I think not. But we should not take their current unpopularity for granted. For times and events will certainly change, and so can opinions change.
Either the Democratic party is all-inclusive to everyone, even disenfranchised Republicans or it is surely time to start over as the Declaration of Independence exhorts us to do when gov't works becomes either tyrannical to its citizens liberties and/or works against the will of the people.
