On tonight's Colbert Report Mike Huckabee, the Republican Governor of Arkansas had an interesting answer to one of Colbert's standard questions. When Stephen Colbert posed the "George W Bush, Great President, or Greatest President?" Question, Huckabee seemed to put in a not so thinly veiled insult. (I'm still waiting on video or transcripts from Comedy Central.)
The following is a paraphrase of what Huckabee said about the boy king:
After me [Huckabee], I'd say there are presidents like Harding and McKinley, and he's in there with them and many others...
UPDATE:
According to LincMad in the comments, a more complete quote would be:
Next to me, he'll rank right up there with McKinley and Harding and several others. It's gonna be a great moment of history, but Stephen, when you're Vice President, just remember: when my pulse stops, you'll take over the Free World.
If I got that right, a REPUBLICAN candidate for president just compared the sitting Republican president to Warren G. Harding, who, owing largely to the Teapot Dome Scandal is considered by many historians to be the WORST PRESIDENT EVER.
The other president he listed, out of the 40+ examples to choose from? McKinley, who, coincidentally enough, happened to start the Spanish American war on false pretenses and used it as a way to beat his competition by presenting himself as a "war president."
So, to sum up, Mike Huckabee compared W to two presidents who started an unprovoked war and had history's biggest bribery scandal (over oil no less!). I've been making this comparison for years (with a little Grant and Nixon for good measure), but coming from a guy who doesn't even believe in evolution??? If that isn't a sign that all of the rats have not only abandoned the ship that is this administration, but have actually begun to toss weights to the survivors, nothing is.
