Republican Representative Jerry Weller (R-IL) may have a fight on his hands as the president of Kankakee Community College (KCC) announced today that he may run against Weller.
More below the fold.
Dr. Jerry Weber, the president of KCC since 2001, announced today that he is launching a "serious exploration" of running as a Democrat for the 11th District U.S. Congressional seat currently held by Republican Jerry Weller.
In the coming weeks, Weber will speak with leaders within the District and will then announce his plans in September.
I know Jerry Weber personally, and I think he would make a phenomenal Representative.
First, he has immense name recognition, and not just in Kankakee but also in the Bloomington/Normal area where he lived while serving as the Vice President of Heartland Community College.
Second, Jerry is honest, knowledgeable, dependable and is not afraid of change.
Weller has held the seat since 1994 and has won seven consecutive two-year terms, most recently defeating John Pavich (D) in 2006 with 55% of the vote. Having said that, neither Weller’s margins nor President Bush's are overwhelming in the district and Weller is beatable.
He was beatable in last year’s midterms but Pavich didn’t run a very aggressive campaign.
Jerry Weber would.
