As with many here, I'm sure, there's real delight in seeing the values-GOP get taken down by decidedly unseemly behaviour. Something though has been eating me since all these scandals involving gay GOP men have been emerging on such a regular basis. The hypocrisy of their actions is what I find condemnable --- but by and large their action itself I don't have a problem with and am disturbed many of these actions are actually 'criminal'.
TPM has a fine summary of the Craig scandal: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/...
The money quote though, which pulls together what's been eating at me is:
But that, to me, is another issue entirely. The issue here is, why is the Minneapolis Airport PD arresting people for such flimsy reasons? Why do judges and prosecutors still accept these cases? Why, in 2007, 43 years after LBJ's chief of staff, Walter Jenkins, got busted in the men's room YMCA in DC, have we apparently moved no further in our analysis of these situations?

Why indeed is it still a crime basically to be gay in the USA?
