Now, I taught the weeping willow how to cry
And I showed the clouds how to cover up a clear, blue sky
And the tears that I cried for that millage are gonna flood you, big river,
and I'm gonna sit right here until I die (Johnny Cash)
If you've noticed, i haven't been around lately. I've been working on a school tax issue.
I lost.
We lost. Not simply my city and my county, but the country. If we can't put money in schools, then what?
I live in one of those anomaly counties--a major university, excellent city schools in one city, but definitely a three-tiered public system.
The proposal was for a 7 mill increase. Pull everyone up, the whole county, by raising property taxes. Millions for the schools, yet the burden spread out.
We (humanity) lost.
Damned Grover Norquist type ads.
"This will drive your neighbor's business into bancruptcy." With America the beautiful in the bachground.
Fuck these no-tax fucks. FUCK them. The rich assholes who either have no children or who send their kids to private school defeated this school measure. We have low freaking taxes. This is Alabama for god's sake.
So, in 10-15 years, when the angry hordes of undereducated folks who can't get into my university cometo call, with shotguns and pitchforks, should I
a. offer punch, and state how I wanted to do somethiong different,
b. Offer ammunition and food, since it will be the revolution,
or
c. direct them to the neighborhiodds, or beats, where the votes against extra millage came from? By the time the children want to revolt, the neighborhoods will have changed.
Let me explain further-- republican mayors, republican council members, SUPPORTED the increase...
So, we have democrats AND republicans opposing who or what?
Giminy Christmas, fornicate... SOMEBODY!
The people have spoken, at least in my county... and this isn't dem or repub... it's ignorant.
it is, simply, wrong.
Peace.
I now have a hell of a lot more time on my hands. I'll be commenting again.
