The flurry of recent diaries lambasting our beloved leaders is completely off base. You self-righteous purists have NO appreciation of political calculation’s enormous cost, or difficulty. When you checked "D" on your ballot, you were endorsing everything your representative might do in the subsequent two years. There's no questioning or backing out now. I've HAD IT with your constant pouting about "civil liberties", "criminal wars", "broken promises" and "accountability,"
Now, you're gonna' have to hear out MY concerns.
You say President Bush is unpopular, but a third of the country supports him. That’s ALMOST more than half. If we want to be a majority party, we can’t go alienating dominionists, corporate profiteers and the American Enterprise Institute. Can you imagine what the Republicans and MSM would say? Oh my monster! We’d never win an election again!
Arguing with you people is exasperating. Quit bitching about FISA and habeas corpus, already; get it through your thick, leftist skulls that 9/11 changed everything—even the universal gravitational constant and the speed of light in a vacuum. If we’re to survive the unparalleled assault of the barbarian hordes, we’ve got to fight dirty; the Constitution’s various luxuries can be mothballed until we prevail. And make no mistake—though you may be rooting against America—we will prevail. We are good. They are bad. We are right. They are wrong.
Sure, Iraq isn’t going so well; the incompetence eludes description, in fact. But things are STARTING to look better. Instead of surrendering to the terrorists, let’s give the President another Friedman or two, or three (or four) and a few hundred billion more for his little sandbox. They can’t fuck up everything all the time. Besides, there’s absolutely nothing we can do to end the war before Bush leaves office, anyway. Why not seize that? It’s a perfect election issue, dovetailing nicely with our objective of "electing Democrats." Yes. We mustn't forget. No matter what, we NEED to elect Democrats. They’ll fix EVERYTHING. Meanwhile, we'll do our job: find new Democratic candidates, fundraise, turn out at the polls, and elect them, biannually, ad infinitum.
Stop demanding the impossible.
Sit down, peruse the latest presidential polls, revel in the Larry Craig shadenfreude, celebrate Warner's retirement, spew vitriol at your least favored candidate, pay your credit cards, and SHUT THE FUCK UP!
