So, yesterday afternoon, I am getting ready to run an errand, had MSNBC on in the background as I gather things, and I hear Eugene Robinson's voice. So I stopped to watch. OK, so it was on the Tucker Carlson show, and I cannot stand the preppy puke but I do like Mr. Robinson, and the other guest was Ed Schultz. (For the record, Eugene Robinson is one of the few writers at the Washington Post, I still read).
So what angered me?
To find out, go over the fold!
Poor widdle Tucker. The "Boomers" are getting on his nerves. So how did this come about? Well, there is this story about Hillary and 1968, and what is Tucker's problem (aside from his abject neocon hatred of Hillary)? Boohoo, he is sick of hearing about it. Boomers need to get over it. It's done.
And Mr. Robinson agreed. Why? Not sure but both were happy because Obama says we need to stop reliving the 60s according to Tucker.
And hell for all I know a bunch here may feel the same way and are willing to be condescending about it also.
Now I don't know how or if Obama said such a thing.
But for Mr. Robinson, a boomer himself, and poor widdle Tucker, here is the view from another boomer.
Maybe we could get "over it" if ONLY....
** it wasn't 2007 and we still have not had anyone except white anglo men leading the country. Doesn't the fact that all these decades after the civil rights movement it is still a big deal that a person of color and a person of the female gender are even close????
** there was no difference in the pay between men and women
** there were no more separate but equal churches, schools, health care (and not they are not equal but that was the supposed deal to avoid integration)
** we weren't in another quagmire of a war where people were dying for the greed of the military-industrial complex
** the actual chasm between the rich and the poor had not grown since the 60s.
** the justice system was finally EQUAL and NOT based on one's race or wealth. All we need do is look at NY under Guiliani; places like JENA, the media attention over the INJUSTICE for the Duke boys when the injustice for a ton more young men of color is barely acknowledged, let alone in focus, to know how much work is needed to be done and how we need a leader who cares.
So, sorry poor widdle Tucker is going to have to be nauseated. Because this boomer isn't shutting up and will not be silenced by anyone's condescension.
Where have you gone Mr. Robinson? And why would you let a pantywaist like Tucker get away with his obnoxious condescension. And worse, agree with him? Age should not be the determiner of our leaders anymore than race or gender should be (Hell, I would have voted for Methuselah over Dubya). As you mentioned in one of your columns a while back, we need a SMART leader, one who can problem solve, one who can think on his/her feet, one able to look at many possible solutions and one who has the personal ability to communicate with anyone regardless of age, race, gender, sexual preferance or belief system.
Come on, Mr. Robinson, you know better than to let a @#%^ like Carlson drive the conversation.
