James Taranto, the editor of the Wall Street Journal's online "Opinion Journal," has shared his thoughts on why "some" liberal bloggers do not want people to pay attention to Osama bin Laden's latest video.
His explanation will perturb you, though not surprise you.
And I quote:
Back in the 1930's a young liberal journalist named Allan Cranston published a translation in English of Mein Kampf, Hitler's manifesto, because he wanted to alert people to the dangers of Nazism. These days when America's enemies speak, young liberal journalists cover their ears and go "la la la la la," they don't want to hear it. Why don't they want to hear it? Well, you look at this bin Laden tape which was transcribed and put up on the web, and he sounds like a blogger for the Daily Kos. He sounds like a typical angry left American.
Video of Mr. Taranto's remarks.
Once again, a partisan pundit attempts to conflate a wide-ranging ideology--liberalism--with a vile excuse for a human being, with the hopes of denigrating that which is at the core of liberal beliefs. Asserting that because bin Laden mentioned the perils of capitalism and global warming he is surely one of us liberals, Mr. Taranto displays the torturous logic that has brought the Republican Party and conservative movement into its woeful state.
This "guilty-by-association" attempt is nothing but slanderous and outrageous, though perhaps indicative of the fact that conservatives are increasingly unwilling and/or unable of duking it out on the issues, since they know they can only win with low blows and Rovian tactics such as this one.
So it goes.
