Lieberman's bizarre questions to General Petraeus haven't gotten much play in the media or the blogosphere, though they were covered on PBS and in the NY Times yesterday.
If there was any doubt that Lieberman is NUTS, this proves it. He's not only NOT a Democrat, he's as extreme and wacko as Dick Cheney.
"General," Lieberman asked, "Do you feel that you have all the authorities (cq) you need from a military point of view to deter, disrupt and respond to the Iranian attacks on our troops in Iran's efforts to destabilize Iraq?"
Petraeus said, "I do
. keeping in mind that my area of responsibility is limited to Iraq. So it does not include going into Iran."
Lieberman has warned for some time of the Iranian threat to U.S. forces in Iraq, and noted Tuesday, that "military spokespeople in Baghdad have made very clear that we have evidence that Iran is taking Iraqi extremists to three training camps outside of Tehran, training them in the use of explosives, sophisticated weapons, sending them back into Iraq, where they are responsible for the murder of American soldiers."
So the senator pressed Petraeus, "Is it time to give you authority, in pursuit of your mission in Iraq, to pursue those Iranian Qods Force operations in Iranian territory, in order to protect America's troops in Iraq?"
Training camps in Iran??? Where the hell is he getting this shit? Is he pulling it out of thin air?
Sounds a whole lot like the kind of bullshit we were fed in the runup to the Iraq Invasion.
Did Lieberman have a private meeting with Cheney before the Petraeus briefing?
