The story has already been covered - I just have one question, in case there are any O'Reillites out there who can answer:
Why In 1949, Iva Toguri D'Aquino convicted of one of eight counts of treason by the U.S. government and given a sentence of 10 years and a $10,000 fine, while confessed and proud Al-Qaeda propagandist James "Tokyo" Taranto roams free even at this moment?
The fourth leg [of terrorist effectiveness] is
publicity. Most significantly, the terrorist thrives on
publicity for his cause. A vital component in a counter-
terrorist program is the deglamourization of the terrorist
act. Limited coverage, matter-of-fact reporting and
disassociating the terrorist act with a particular group,
cause reduced publicity for the terrorist and support to
dwindle. His success is a function of the public awareness
of his activity and effectiveness.
It's perfectly-well understood, as the paper I cite makes clear.
So what is going on?
Conservatives, the Bush administration and Al-Qaeda agree on so many things: abortion, homosexuality and creationism (although Muslim creationism is a little bit more believable - takes slightly longer to fail the "laugh test").
President Bust has shown no lack of boldness in pursuing our enemies.
And his relations with the editors and columnists of the Wall Street Journal opinion page have been positive, almost to the point of being homosexually romantic. The WSJ pundits defended Bush when he seemingly turned against his base to help business import poverty and protect employers who would break the law by expanding the "Basic Pilot" program that kept Swift Meats and Tyson away from sanction for employing thousands illegally.
I mention immigration only because I apparently like to be yelled at and because the "don't throw us in the briar patch" cry of businesses "objecting" to Basic Pilot (while the WSJ supported this regulation on business...hmmm) was a subterfuge of almost magnificent proportions.
So what is Bush's game here?
Hang on - first he starts arming radical Sunnis in an effort to "combat" the "Al-Qaeda In Iraq" group his war created.
Now we know his people have armed Bin Laden before, but that was in quite another context.
Still, he then ignores the first rule of counter-terrorism by constantly blabbing about how strong and powerful Osama Bin Laden is (again, almost to the point of romantic homosexuality).
Finally, he makes the bold move of failing to prosecute his old sweatshop-importation buddies at the WSJ when they turn into Al-Qaeda mouthpieces.
Put it all together..........
George W. Bush will lead the People Of Abraham against the Shiite Apostasy!!! And the WSJ will be right behind him!!!
It's genius, really.
