Let's take the Bush administration at their word. Don't doubt those statistics. Accept the fact that anyone shot in the head -- from front or back -- isn't a victim of sectarian violence. Buy that, and a dozen other dubious statistics, and you too will soon be gushing that Iraq has almost returned to the golden conditions of 2006. And with the military conditions swirling in endless circles, you shouldn't be surprised to hear that the political conditions are also rolling back to those days of yore.
A carefully constructed compromise on a draft law governing Iraq’s rich oil fields, agreed to in February after months of arduous talks among Iraqi political groups, appears to have collapsed. ... The oil law — which would govern how oil fields are developed and managed — is one of several benchmarks that the Bush administration has been pressing the Iraqis to meet as a sign that they are making headway toward creating an effective government.
Whichever Regent U. grad keeps track of the benchmarks in the Bush administration will have to get out the colored penciles and change this one from "totally cool" back to "rockin' progress." Eh, who am I kidding. It's still totally cool with Bush!
Now, what about the capitulators in congress?
