I was finally banned from this site a little less than a month ago (EnderRS). It is possible that it happened because I created a user on the "site of the banned leftist rejects" but it's also possible that the autoban kicked in as I was fairly cranky the last few weeks before the ban and received some TRs. Who knows. It doesn't matter.
So I created this account to write a little fitting epilogue to the whole experience. If the admins delete it so be it. I am finished with participating here.
As a few of you might remember reading (Why I left GOP (response to LarryInNYC)) I left GOP a while back. What does that even mean? I felt that the GOP were a bunch of crooks and incompentents drunk on power and who have betrayed the values I thought they were supposed to represent. For some reason I thought that I could find common cause with people here.
For a time Daily Kos was a bit more exciting and I even went to a few of the NYC meetups. I met some nice people - people who I read and respected before meeting them. Clammyc, LarryinNYC, MBNYC, andgarden, psifighter, Jay Elias and others. To be honest I even felt much more at home meeting liberals than I have when meeting any other political group. Good people. I respect many more people who write on DailyKos and of course it is as it should be - a premier site will attract considerable talent. And I wish I could meet more but alas it is not to be.
I have no pretentions about my own writing skills or any special debating abilities. I am just an average guy in a corporate world, working to make a living. I am in the middle class. I like politics and keep up with the current events. I enjoy life.
I am on the Right politically and there are very few policy positions I agree with the Left on. And that's taking into account the fact that I am secular, pro-choice, pro-gay rights, and pro-research. I simply cannot get over the general mindset of the people who participate here. It is alien to me and I can't help but know that it is destructive to our country. There is no doubt that most of you feel exactly the same way about my views and that is precisely why common cause is so elusive and practically impossible between the two main competing core ideologies.
I understand hate towards a President like George Bush. I dislike the man though I used to adore him and voted twice for him; all that knowing that he was simple and incompetent on his own. I understand hate because I hated President Clinton, mostly for being an extremely intelligent opponent who was able to stifle our Conservative Revolution and probably helped lead my former party to its ultimate destruction. I understand how extreme hate can be possible and have seen it on full display on both sides. What I can't understand, or rather can't excuse, is the alternate reality many of you have to inhabit in order to spout some of the things I see here on a regular basis.
Here is what I can't live with and am not interested in living with:
- Because Bush is started a wrong, misguided, and unfortunate war in Iraq, the President of Iran is either similar or better (mostly better if you read here). The poor misrepresented President of Theocracy of Iran is somehow being unfairly attacked by US and is the victim in all of this. The theocracy of Iran that funds Hezbollah and other terror groups, is hurtling towards acquiring nuclear weapons, trains and funds shiite militias in Iraq with the effect of further destabilization, is somehow the good guy or at the very least is entitled to keep doing what they are doing because Bush is "evil".
- Extra security measures that pale in comparison with what we've had implemented in previous eras (WW2, Civil War) are proof of US hurtling towards Fascism, Dictatorship, end of Democracy.
- Christian fundies are a greater threat than millions of Islamists clamoring for the destruction of everything Western.
- AIPAC is the real reason why we do what we do, and the implications thereof.
- Constant gleeful producing of juicy morsels to claim that our economy is flying towards recession, and attributing the entire state of our Economy to Bush.
- Evil neocons blah blah blah blah.
- Conservatism is dead.
- Republicans and conservatives are enemies.
- Enemy of my enemy is a friend. (Castro, Chavez, Ahmadinejad)
- Many other things that bugged me and raised my blood pressure but that I do not want to trouble my beautiful mind remembering.
I suppose a lot of the nonsense is to be expected on a partisan political website but I finally realized that we are simply not inhabiting the same universe and our paths are not intersecting, no matter how hard I want the GOP reformed (I want Religious Conservatives out of the coalition or at the very least removed from setting policy). From the look of your protest in Washington (with those nice fellows from ANSWER) it didn't look like most Americans are inhabiting your universe either. What is also painfully obvious is that (sellout, traitorous) Democratic Representatives are also not a part of your "reality-based" coalition speaking truth to power.
With all due respect to liberals who do inhabit this reality and still comment and post on this blog, I must bow out and wish you all the best. Who knows, I might even vote Democratic in '08 if the GOP do not field an acceptable candidate. I'll retire my evil conservative sniping back to where I belong. So long, and thanks for all the fish!
