Does anyone else around here get bombarded with campaign spam?
Sometimes I have to remind myself why I signed up to receive emails from all the Democratic Candidates in the first place. As I recall it was so I could keep up to speed with all the campaigns and also to give me another avenue into where they stand. After clicking on them a few times I concluded that in reality they are almost entirely fund-raising spam and usually they go immediately into the trash bin.
Tonight I opened one such piece of Spam from the Clinton campaign.
The title was:
You, me, a TV, and a bowl of chips
and it was from "Bill Clinton" <info@hillaryclinton.com>.
The spam continues:
So here's an idea: why don't you and I share that excitement together during an upcoming debate. Hillary's campaign will pick three people -- each invited with a guest to watch one of the upcoming presidential debates with me. We'll sit down in front of a big TV with a big bowl of chips, watch the debate, and talk about the race. If you enter before the Sunday midnight deadline, you and a guest could be the ones to sit down with me to watch a presidential debate.
Join me for a debate. Make a contribution today:

Well, thinking that I have always wanted to sit down with Bill so I could ask him a number of questions. (I will refrain, or, I should say, my wife will make sure that I don't ask why he couldn't keep his penis in his pants. That is not polite.) I did shake his hand once, but I would really rather sit down and have a one to one with him. I'm serious here. I did vote for the man twice. I think I can keep it civil. Besides, we actually have a couple friends in common. They have some questions for him too. Also, Hillary won't be there since she will be at the debate.
The spam went on for a little bit more along the lines of:
"I like to watch Hillary debate." and nice stuff like that about Hillary.
Then right into the much harder to swallow stuff like "Do you want to end the war in Iraq?" (I can answer that Bill. I wanted to never begin the war in Iraq.)
But, as I was reading this and even with my anger, grief and disappointment with Bill, I found myself forgiving him and wanting to get in the running for my chance to "talk about the race" with Bill.
At the same time I really don't want to contribute any money to Hillary.
So, I click on the link and end up on the contribution page.
I'm thinking. "I could just give her a penny. That wouldn't be so bad." But a bigger part of me rejects that idea and I'm about to give up on the whole thing when I notice that there is an "Official Rules and Regulations" link. Look at the bottom of this the "Watch A Debate With Bill" contribution page.
I click on it and, lo and behold, the motherload!
YOU DON'T NEED TO CONTRIBUTE TO ENTER!
The fine print does say that the:
Contest limited to legal residents of the U.S. who are at least 18 years of age and who support the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton.
I guess that would rule out a few of us around here, but if I won this contest I would certainly send my vote her way if she won the nomination. As far as I'm concerned that should count....
Did I mention that you (and a companion) will be flown to the city where Bill will be and given a hotel room. Maybe I shouldn't be telling all of you this. My wife and I could really use a free trip.
Anyway....
If you want to sign up for your chance to "Watch a Debate With Bill" WITHOUT MAKING A CONTRIBUTION to Hillary's campaign. All you have to do is go to The Watch With Bill Website and enter your info.
I hope that at least one of us Kossacks wins so that we can report back on our experience.
Peace.
