is actually encouraging Democratic congressmen to vote to condemn them?
Now let's suppose that they know full well that stretching out the controversy will generate sympathy and donations to their organization which will ultimately help out the Democratic Party and progressive issues. Would it be out of line for them to have made some calls to guys they helped put into office and asked for a little payback? Now this is a real stretch but if this theory has any legs, it might just be brilliant.
Let's face it. As upset as many of us are about goofy non-binding votes like these recent condemnations, the bottom line is I really doubt any of the Dems voting for them have anything to worry about from their base supporters.
I've felt my own ire raising recently and what did I do? I didn't go out and try to recruit some more progressive and bold person to start a campaign to unseat the errant Democrats. No, I simply went to Moveon's website, signed a petition of support, and vowed to donate to them. That'll show em.
I can tell you from my perspective that I would have just sat back reading blogs if the resolutions in the House and Senate had simply fallen to defeat. The Democrats had the votes to do just that easily and I just never saw the real political risk of not denouncing Moveon as far as the public was concerned. Clearly the polls show that Petraeus is not some beloved God and that most are not buying his message.
Now, donating to Moveon is probably a good thing no matter what and it's probably high time I got around to doing it but I can't help but feel a bit duped. Fool me once.......you won't be fooled again.
