...according to WaPo
It's funny, I thought the Senate voted on a bill that would have required just that last week--the Webb Amendment--well sorry, they didn't vote on it. It was filibustered.
And less than a week later, the SECRETARY OF THE ARMY AND THE CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE ARMY!!!! come out and say they are going to recommend just that!
Are you serious? You've got to be f*cking sh*ttiing me! Why didn't they say anything last week or the week before? (That's a rhetorical question, I know why--they both Bush appointees) But the better reason is that they are cowardly and spineless and it sickens me to have been in the Army when that was my leadership, willing to say something only after it is too late to change things.
I am beyond speechless to the point of giving up. This is about the most ridiculous thing I have every seen--maybe it's more so because I'm a soldier and so many of my friends could have been done right by the Webb Amendment. Instead their leadership, their Secretary and their Chief of Staff, men whose names they are required to memorize from the first day of their training: Pete Geren and George Casey. Men whose pictures are required to be on the wall of every SINGLE military unit in the army, refused to look out for their men when they had the chance, and "came to the rescue" too late. Frankly it's disgusting and both should be removed from office immediately.
I am ashamed by my former army leadership and I hope there is a special place reserved in hell for these two men. And the last doubt that the Pentagon, civilian and military alike, is as committed to eternal war in Iraq as the President is removed, especially since every senator who upheld the filibuster voted that way because the Pentagon said Webb was a bad idea.
