The year is 2007, the picture is of a building in the United States, the building is in the shape of a swastika(tilted 60-degree from true North). The year is also 2007, the picture is that of a noose, not once but twice.
We live in an era of symbols and they are coming back strongly than ever. Something about seeing a multi-story armed-forces building on U.S. soil built, bought and paid for with our tax dollars gives me the weelies and makes the hair in the back of my neck stand up reaaaally high. Something about a noose hanging from a tree also gives me the weelies. Which one is worse? you decide. What is the message? Wikipedia can tell you what a symbol is. Nowadays three lines inside a circle can mean either peace or Mercedes. What is next a sombrero with a bullet hole in it hanging from a corn plant to symbolize something against Mexicans? At no time has the country been so polarized as it is now.
I say the students that originally hung the noose in Jena knew what they were doing and should be punished for a hate crime, the same for the stupid kid who hung the nooses from the truck. I say the designers who approved the layout of the San Diego building knew what they were doing and it should be demolished , not simply "landscaped" over. Please note that this is not about the Jena 6 kids it is about the power of symbols and how the kids reacted after they saw the symbol of a noose.
Hey... those are my two cents...I'll crawl back to my hole now...
