Introduction from Mike Smith

Hi everyone. I wanted to take an hour to introduce myself to the netroots community. I entered the race in May, and since that time I've been working hard learning the issues, communicating with voters, and of course, raising money to fund my campaign.

From last diary, you may have realized that I am not a career politician. In fact, this is my first run for any sort of political office. I've always had a keen interest in politics--and given the recent state of affairs in our country, I knew that we needed change now. We can't wait any longer---and our current Congressman isn't representing this district.

I've been serving my home community for years, and with your help and support, we can take common sense answers to Washington. No more time can be wasted--in 2008, we must change the direction of our country and have a strong voice of reason in Congress.

We need someone who feels passionately about changing the direction of our country. My name is Mike Smith, and I will be that fresh alternative in Congress. I am not a politician. I am a working father and husband in Central Florida who cares about where our country is heading. That's why I am asking to be your next United States Representative for District 8.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
