Bolton Beats Iran War Drum on BBC

Wed Jan 31, 2007 at 03:18:40 AM PDT

I just woke up at 5:30 a.m. EST to hear John Bolton crisply warn a BBC Radio correspondent with off-handed certainty about the utter reality that Iran is inciting hostilities with the whole world and especially the USA that will result in an upcoming conflict. Speaking as a member of the American Enterprise Institute, Bolton was very matter-of-fact with his assessments that conflict with Iran is inevitable and coming soon.

Sorry that I cannot cite, link, or quote any of this, the BBC has not put anything up on their website(s) yet. I will try to update later but I assume the story will appear here. And I know that this is far from shocking to hear Bolton calling for war with Iran, but I still find it remarkable that a politically ousted warmonger, having left an extremely unpopular presidential administration, and having joined an unabashedly right-wing think tank STILL gets his voice heard around the world on a MSM outlet like the BBC. Take away those qualifiers and "we" are still left with a former high-ranking US official openly advocating war with Iran.

It is just stupid neo-con fantasy foreign policy with no regard for consequences.

  •  Again, sorry about the lack of a link (6+ / 0-)

but unless I was having a really bad nightmare, it should be popping up soon enough. Oddly, I notice many other stories that were on the air do have links already.

Zbigniew Brzezinski to the end of the story, and he was a counterpoint, but not what I would consider a balanced counterpoint to Bolton.

But in the world of today Bolton/Brzezinski is what passes for balance.

as the Blair junta puts pressure on it to fall into line behind the government's warmongering.  Blair has never forgiven the BBC for outing its "dodgy dossier" and giving blanket coverage to the investigations of Dr David Kelley's suicide which followed.

The governor and executive were forced to resign then, the governance structure was overhauled to give more direct government control, the talking heads were given a list of topics and phrases they were not allowed to say on air, and now the BBC's budget was slashed this year to ensure it would have to cut back on foreign coverage.

There are still plenty of good folks in the BBC fighting back, quietly and persistently, and they will win, but in the meanwhile you are going to hear Wolfowitz, Perle, Bolton and other neocon savages get airtime.

Victory #1) In Iraq the Neo-Cons have achieved 90% of their goals. Whereas any normal person would say that the US is at best at a stalemate, the Neo-Cons are enjoying de facto "control" over the oil-rich Middle East, thereby funding their two main workhorse industries, big oil and defense.

Victory #2) The Neo-Cons have had a smashing success in the arena of the news media. They have bullied and pushed their way from the top down (most notably NPR and Disney/ABC) to move the perceived "center" of the debate extremely far to the right.

This is the price for disarray on the left, or maybe a better descriptive term would be "what's left."

    New.
Yes Iran may be involved in the Iraqi mess, but who can blame them?
The war opened up the US to all sorts of problems. The Iranians now realize that the US cant invade Iran and so they are moving ahead and consolidating their influence on the shia forces in Iraq, while trying to poke US's eyeball.

oh georgie what a mess you have us in!
