The Republicans latest outrage does more than expose the Republicans at their absolute worst, it does so in a way that--finally--is tailor-made for traditional media. We need to maximize the damage--by turning the attention on the viciousness, and vindictiveness, of the crumbling GOP empire.Best for us, the story does indeed seem to be "snowballing" with the momentum going beyond the control of the spinners.
The key is to use this event to continue to define the GOP as it really is, and amplify the message. The trick is to do that without subjecting the family to unnecessary stress. We have an opening with the revelation of fingerprints leading to Mitch McConnell's staff. Here's a synopsis of what we might do to max this out.
- Bulldog--the Republicans do this better than us. Not this time. Every Democrat must invoke the outrageous ugliness of this episode on every talk show, news program, interview, etc. The underlying message must be that no family can rest assured that the Republicans won't attack them as well.
- Another Case of Kill the Messenger--This was Rove's specialty, and an effective one. Well, it's time for another turnaround. They have no message, other than trying to intimidate those who disagree with their policy. Except they have no policy.
- Schiavo Re-Dux--Limited government? Really? This is worse than reaching into the bedroom, it's using all the levers of government unchecked, to destroy a single family.
- Family Values--another myth unmasked by this episode.
- More corruption--Not only is it a vicious attack, but one in which all the accusations are blatantly false. Once again, the GOP defined by its dishonesty.
- It's beyond politics--They went way out of bounds on this. It's not Politics, it's KristallNacht--government by angry mob.
Most important, keep rolling that snowball.
