My first diary here:
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and am on Barbara Boxer's e-mailing list. She just sent out an announcement regretting that Al Gore wouldn't be coming to a concert they've been hyping in SF tomorrow, because, she says:
I just got a call from Vice President Al Gore. He told me that he needs to travel abroad tomorrow for an exciting and urgent mission that could result in a major breakthrough in the fight against global warming.
I posted this over on LucyMO's sig-counting diary, wondering what might be up.
She said it had to be the peace prize.
According to the Nobel Prize website that announcement will come at 9am GMT on Friday.
I think we have a winner. And not just of the Nobel Prize, IMHO. Now let's get a Nobel Peace Prize winner into the White House.
UPDATED below the fold. There's this Belgrade conference on the environment...
UPDATE: I think the caveats everyone here and on the earlier diary have been giving are probably right. Though the announcement is due Friday morning, European time, even if Gore is the winner (which I still think likely) he won't be getting the prize then, so why leave the country?
However, merrylib posted a comment on the other diary noting that the UN has a conference going on in Belgrade, starting today, to do with carbon neutrality. So an announcement or an agreement may be expected there, quite possibly timed to go with the Nobel announcement. I wouldn't be surprised if something like that leaked in several directions.
