Dear Congresswoman Pelosi:
As you well know congressional approval ratings are at an all time low. There is no good reason for that.
In the election of 2006 republicans went to the polls and voted against their own to do one thing, put the breaks on Bush. They wanted his war in Iraq over and his excesses stopped. The congress under your leadership has failed to do that.
Congresswoman, you may want to believe that because I am blogging this letter to you on Daily Kos that I am some fringe lefty and that you can dismiss me. But I am an engaged activist who works for candidates in the democratic party. I have actively worked for Presidents Clinton and Carter, Al Gore, John Kerry, various State Reps, Congressman Kanjorski etc... When my son was at college I sent him to do some volunteer work for Congressman Murtha.
I have always voted for Democrats. I believe that we are better off when democrats are leading the country, but I am also a Dean Democrat, I believe in the 50 state strategy and I have come to believe that we in the hinterlands should run primaries against democrats who act like republicans. By the way, I certainly do not put you in that category.
But I have sadly come to the conclusion that you do not have the stomach to fight. Either that or you are hopelessly out of touch with the American people and are in desperate and immediate need of a listening tour.
In fact I would advise you that if you do not want to step down and you are interesting in saving the democratic majority that you embark with in days on a small town and small city tour of America, and with humility listen to those who are pissed off at congress and find out why.
I know that you pride yourself on your pragmatism just as Senator prides herself on her pragmatism. However, where it works wonderfully for her, it does not work for the leader of the congress.
We hold the purse strings and the power, please start acting like it. It is humiliating to watch my party continue to be it's own worst enemy.
There comes a time when you must fight back and not allow people to walk all over you. It can be scary, but I am learning in my personal life just recently, that if you do not fight back you will always lose.
Madame speaker, this can not go on. There must be a dramatic change. This is not a media problem. This is not a matter of not having the votes. This is a problem with leadership. So you must either figure out what to do or for the good of the party and the country you must step aside and let some one else lead.
I say this to you as an ardent feminist who could not have been prouder when you took your oath as speaker.
Sincerely,
Molly Stark
ps... would you please tell bush to shut the hell up about world war three? This is the man you have respect for and have been willing to work with? For the love of God, does he have something on you? He is the worst president in the history of America and he is DANGEROUS. STOP HIM. That is what 75 percent of Americans want you to do. Just do it.
