It's time to insist that Michael Brown, the incompetent and unqualified director of FEMA, be fired. We need someone who can step into the job immediately, fully prepared to handle the responsibilities. The best man for that job is James Lee Witt, the FEMA director from 1993 to 2001. Before that, he ran the Arkansas department of emergency services, and after that, he set up a firm devoted to crisis and emergency management.
Mr. Witt's resume is available online. While I don't know if he wants the job, I hope that he will accept a draft.
Bush should fire Brown and ask Witt to come in and hit the ground running.
