Whatever is holding Al Gore back from responding to the stated wish of hundreds of thousands of Americans -- over 200,000 have signed the petition at DraftGore.com -- and the hopes of millions more (almost everyone I talk to says they wish Gore were running, although most, unfortunately, aren't acting on that wish), it can't or at least shouldn't be worries that he wouldn't win the nomination.
Properly conducted polls that ask the question "if Gore were running" show him consistently in the lead, overtaking Hillary Clinton. (The polls that have him around 10% are the ones that throw him in against the declared candidates with no explanation, with most respondents discounting Gore since "he isn't running".)
Polls here at DailyKos have shown Gore with about 2/3 support "if he enters." Those of us in the Draft Gore movement asked DFA to include Gore as a choice in their poll. They declined but did allow for write-ins.
Well guess what: With over 40,000 votes cast, Gore is currently in the lead AS A WRITE-IN.
As I am writing this, the standings are as follows:
Al Gore 12267 26.82%
John Edwards 10898 23.83%
Barack Obama 8207 17.94%
Dennis Kucinich 6759 14.78%
Hillary Clinton 3025 6.61%
Bill Richardson 1806 3.95%
Other 1200 2.62%
Joe Biden 637 1.39%
Mike Gravel 539 1.18%
Christopher Dodd 399 0.87%
Imagine where Gore would be if they actually included him by name as we asked!
Please call or write to Gore's office and let him and his people know his destiny is calling:
