Glenn Beck had a wonderful interlude recently. Glenn, that source of "fair and balanced" news on that other station, had a guest on his "The Big Idea" show - Cesar Milan. Cesar - the "Dog Whisperer" - showed up to be one of the success stories Beck loves to trumpet. Cesar - one of the people who profited from the American Dream - was on to show how good it is to be your own person and how America is such a great place. Unfortunately, Glenn didn't do his research. Why?
more below the fold:
Glenn ran one of the worst bits ever in the past - The History of Illegal Immigration (now showing on YouTube) - that is demeaning and inaccurate. Glenn is an "America for Americans" kind of guy. His subtext is "America is for successful Americans" and if you aren't one, then too bad.
Glenn Beck asked Cesar the standard interview questions. But Glenn didn't do his research. First, he started to ask Cesar his story. And guess where it started - Mexico. (My wife called me in to watch this but I can't find a video feed). It seems Cesar one Christmas told his father he wanted to go to the US. His father gave him one hundred dollars.
Glenn then asked "How did you get to the US". Cesar replied
The standard way - run, jump, swim
The better part was the following (quote:
Glenn: How did you survive on one hundred dollars?
Cesar: I didn't have one hundred dollars?
Glenn: Where did the money go?
Cesar: To the coyote.
Glenn: The coyote? (Good research, Glenn, for someone who pounds the illegal immigration drum)
Cesar: Yeah, the guy who got me across the border.
Glenn: Let's not talk about immigration now, let's talk about your success in Hollywood.
Beautiful. Cesar talked about how he had always wanted to come to the US because it was the land of opportunity and that he saw America as the beacon to Mexicans. Glenn looked like he was sitting on a steel pole.
Oops, that's right, Cesar took America's cheerleader (the guy whose first archive on his website says " The greatest radio broadcaster of all time, Rush Limbaugh, graced the airwaves of the Glenn Beck Program today") and used his program for flogging how good the economy is to speak for the success of an illegal immigrant.
Thanks. Glenn.
